Let New Orleans build a wireless network without outside interference!

The Wireless Report carries this update on New Orleans battle to keep their public WiFi network running and the efforts of broadband incumbants to squash this network:
"(New Orleans) has been fighting to keep this little network running at 512-kbits-per-second, a pretty nice speed I'd say. However, BellSouth, Cox, and others are bitching and moaning about this network..."
And are our senators and congress people listening to the people or to the money? Here is the latest response from CA Senator Barbara Boxer's office on my emails about AT&T's monopoly power:
"As a member of the Senate Commerce Committee, which has jurisdiction over telecommunications issues, please know that I am monitoring this situation closely. Rest assured, I will keep your views in mind as the review process continues."
To be clear, my email to Boxer was not about New Orleans, but about municipal WiFi in general and AT&T specifically.
