Replacing Powell at the FCC
Paul Kapustka over at Advanced IP Pipeline has some excellent thoughts on why he expects the Bush administration to make current commissioner Kevin Martin the new chairman of the FCC. Paul writes:
According to multiple sources, current commissioner Kevin Martin holds the pole position -- if for no other reason, due to the fact that since he's already on the commission, he doesn't need Senate confirmation, a process the Bushies are getting quite enough of these days.Kapustka points out that if Martin is not promoted that he is likely to leave, and that Kathleen Abernathy is also expected to depart. Paul observes that "...it's doubtful that Republicans want to draft an entirely new crew to lead their telecom battles..." making a Martin promotion a good bet.
