Mr. Powell's Stepped Out ...
(Sponsor: Lok Technology)
Some breaking news: If the Wall Street Journal ed page has it right (a sometimes chancy proposition), Michael Powell is officially out as FCC chairman. It had been assumed he'd be leaving sometime soon, though there's some surprise at the timing. He's been a powerful proponent of deregulating telecom, and something of a creative thinker in envisioning the future of the industry and the role of IP communications. All good things. (There are plenty of things in the media and social sphere where praise might be, umm, more restrained).
So the questions now: Where will he land next, and how huge will his paycheck be? And more important to the rest of us, who will follow as FCC leader? Given the current administration and the current climate, you have to expect someone who will continue to push the same philosophy of less is more when it comes to regulation (and televised nipple exposure).
Let the speculation begin.
